Kaspersky Anti-Spam 3.0 wins a Golden Certificate from Virus Bulletin

Kaspersky Anti-Spam 3.0 wins a Golden Certificate from Virus Bulletin:

Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions announces that Kaspersky Anti-Spam 3.0 has received a Golden Certificate from the authoritative British IT security magazine Virus Bulletin.

Between 7 and 27 August, 2009, 12 of the most popular anti-spam products went head-to-head in a product comparison called VBSpam which tested their spam filtration efficiency to the maximum on identical server hardware running Windows or Linux server operating systems.

The products were tested for efficiency using more than 315,000 emails. Of these, more than 313,000 contained some spam content, including 19,400 emails from Virus Bulletin’s own spam archive and over 249,000 emails that were received in real time from the spam traps of Project Honey Pot. All of the anti-spam solutions tested received the same email flow.

All the emails sent originated from dedicated, fixed IP addresses, thus hindering the detection of spam by way of standard IP filtration technology. In order to resolve this issue, IP addresses and/or senders’ domain names were added to the email headers.

-------------- news from Kaspersky Lab.

The prestigious VB Golden Certificate is only awarded to products that can demonstrate very high levels of spam detection coupled with a low rate of false positives. Kaspersky Anti-Spam 3.0 earned its Golden Certificate by demonstrating a 98.39% level of spam detection with a minimal false positive rate of 0.63 %. Additionally, the Kaspersky solution successfully detected and blocked 99.01% of all unsolicited emails that originated from spam traps, i.e. genuine spam messages.

Virus Bulletin’s experts praised Kaspersky Lab’s solution for its above-average performance in both test parameters as well as its ease of use.

Kaspersky Anti-Spam 3.0 is a highly effective system designed to combat unsolicited email in medium-to-large sized enterprises. The solution incorporates a number of spam control technologies that are unique to the market. The exceptional effectiveness of Kaspersky Anti-Spam 3.0 is achieved through multi-layer and multi-language analysis of the email traffic received. The package of technologies utilized by Kaspersky Anti-Spam ensures the successful detection of virtually all unsolicited email messages.

Kaspersky Offers Beta of Its Anti-Virus for Linux Servers

According to a press release, Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux File Server 6.0 is a solution offering antivirus protection to Linux file servers. It supersedes two earlier products -- Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux File Server 5.7 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Samba Server 5.5, combining their functionalities with a number of new capabilities. The release claims that the architecture of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux File Server 6.0 provides multilayered protection for file systems in Linux/heterogeneous networks, functioning simultaneously on the entire file system level and on the Samba server level. The product offers a wider set of management solutions including the Kaspersky Web Management Console, the new web-based interface, which provides full-scale management capabilities available from any computer via a web browser. The final release of the product will support all centralized management services via Kaspersky Administration Kit.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux File Server 6.0 supports all modern 32-bit and 64-bit distributions of Linux-family operating systems, including Red Hat, Fedora, SUSE, openSUSE, Debian GNU, and Ubuntu. Another improvement on the previous product versions is the added support of Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 and Novell NSS.

The beta version of the product is available at http://www.kaspersky.com/beta.

Latest Kaspersky Suite Overloads on Security

Latest Kaspersky Suite Overloads on Security:

Kaspersky Lab has pre-announced its latest all-in-one security suite with the lure that it has packed even more protection layers of into one software product.

A look at the features list and the claim stands up well, assuming they work correctly against real-world threats. Internet Security 2010, available from July, covers the standard bases of file-based malware with more complex intermediate threats types that try to attack PCs through web, email and instant messaging ports.

Under a slick-looking interface, the product also includes a two-way soft firewall, an anti-spam filter and a list of interesting features to 'tweak' security beyond simply turning it on and hoping it stops malware. There is a feature to create a rescue disk should the PC become so infected that a clean restart is necessary, and a tool to analyse a PC's behaviour in more detail if malware activity is suspected.

Customers get an 'activity eraser' to hide their Internet usage, a virtual keyboard to confound keyloggers, and a browser security tune-up utility, although the latter only works with Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

Is anything missing from the all-encompassing security suite? The one possible omission could have been a tool for assessing the update and vulnerability status of the software on a PC, but the suite even manages to include a component to carry out this task. From the beta software on offer to journalists, it was, however, hard to assess how comprehensive this tool would be in real-world use.

Users not tempted by the maze of security layers that come with Internet Security 2010 can opt for the similarly-revised Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010.This overlaps with the Internet Security suite but omits features such as the firewall and application control as a way of lowering the price.

Available from next month, Kaspersky Internet Suite 2010 for Vista 32/64-bit costs £39.99 for a one year, one desktop license, or £49.99 per annum for a 3-desktop license. This drops to £31.99 and £39.99 respectively for the renewal customers. Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 costs £29.99 per annum per desktop, or £39.99 for a 3-desktop version.
